Scottish Ice

Just back from a fantastic 4 day trip to the  Beinn Dearg hills and Seana Bhraigh, north of Loch Glascarnoch in Easter Ross. It was pretty cold and frosty especially in the glens, maybe as low as -10c.

The rivers and streams were frozen. The moss, peat and turf were rock hard with frost. The purple moor grass and deer grass were covered in ice crystals. The lochans had a layer of newly formed ice. Long icicles hung from river banks and peat hags. And little puddles had beautiful frozen air bubbles, hollow and fragile. Here’s a selection of the photos I took.
