With summer nearly over, here’s my top ten views from hiking about Scotland, England and France.

1. Ben More from Stob Binnein. I like the way Ben More is in silhouette behind the rain cloud. I was out hillwalking with Isaac Wilkie. Read about our trip here.

2. Puig Castell Isard and Puig Carlit, French Pyrenees. This photo was taken from Cabane de Rouzet on day 2 of a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in June this year. It was a great campsite.

3. Totternish Ridge, Isle of Skye. This was in May. It was a sunny warm day and we explored the Quiraing and northern end of the ridge. This view is looking south to The Storr.

4. Asgog Bay, Cowal Peninsula. This is one of my favourite places, a remote and little visited bay at the end of the Cowal peninsula with beautiful oak woodlands and views across to the Isle of Arran. Sea pinks in the foreground of the photo. Read more about Asgog Bay here.

5. Glen Rosa, Isle of Arran. This was early summer and the purple moor grass was still brown. This view looks north, up Glen Rosa to a mountain called Cir Mhor. Read more about our visit to Arran here.

6. Little Calva, Lake District. This photo was taken in August and the heather is in bloom. The hill is Little Calva, to the north of Skiddaw. The path forms part of the Cumbria Way. Read more about my recent trip to the Lake District here.

7. Rackwick Bay, Isle of Hoy, Orkney. Huge red cliffs, turquoise water and sandy beach. This view is taken from the path that leads to the Old Man of Hoy.

8. Hermaness National Nature Reserve, Isle of Unst, Shetland. This is the most northerly part of Britain. The photo is taken from the Neap towards Saito and Tonga. In the foreground is a huge gannet colony with 16,000 breeding pairs.

9. Edinburgh from the Pentlands. I like the huge storm clouds in this photo. I was on a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition and we were just above Bonaly Reservoir looking north towards Edinburgh and Fife.

10. Isle of Staffa, Skye. Another view from Skye. I like the silvery light and blue grey colours. Even on wet weather days the light can be great and you can good views. We were looking for fossils at the time on Staffin beach.
