Looking for inspiration for your expedition grub, bored of dehydrated meals, unsatisfied with pot noodles? This blog presents three simple recipes for tasty campsite meals, cooked on a stove. There’s:

  • Toasted tortilla with cheese, ham, and red pepper:
  • ‘Speedy Pasta’, a simple but delicious pasta-based meal with tomato sauce and grated cheese; and,
  • French toast with chocolate spread.

The hardest part of these recipes isn’t the cooking but the prep you need to do at home. The chopping up and packing up of ingredients into tupperware takes a little organisation beforehand, but it’s so worth it.

Each recipe has a list of ingredients and is for two people. Watch the videos to see how to make them.

Why don’t you give them a try and let me know – by posting comments below – how you like them.

Toasted Tortilla

Ingredients:

  • One red pepper
  • 100g grated cheese
  • Pack of sliced ham
  • 8 small tortillas

Speedy Pasta

Ingredients:

  • 150g of pasta
  • A small amount of tomato sauce, with herbs
  • 50g of grated cheese

French Toast

Ingredients:

  • 50g of butter
  • Two eggs
  • 4-5 slices of bread
  • Chocolate spread

If you master these, why not try something a bit more challenging? We followed this delicious recipe for lamb with haricot beans, cooked it at home, put it in a Tupperware container, then heated it up at camp.

Happy cooking. Read more about our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions and residentials here.
